Rodents and Mice
Why they are coming in?
Just like in the summer when all the rain hits and the insects invade, the rodents are coming into your property because it’s cold outside. They search for the warmth your home provides and snuggle in for the winter. Unfortunately while building their homes, they can destroy yours. This is why you need rodent control.
Why get an exclusion and what is it?
Exclusions are a way to get the rodents out and keep them out. By the time most people realize they have rodent activity, some damage has already been done. The rodents have used your insulation to build nests and as a bathroom. Also keep in mind rodents multiply quickly with a gestational period of 21 days. You can go from a few to many in a short period of time. When a trained professional comes in they will survey the area to see what needs to be done. They will also examine the exterior your home to find where the rodents are entering and exiting. Once the home is sealed, traps will be placed to rid your home of the rodents still living in your attic.
Why not just wait till they leave?
Some home owners think if they just wait till the weather resumes to normal Florida temperatures, the problem will resolve itself. After all, who or what could live in a Florida attic? This is a fair assumption and the rodents may not leave when it becomes too hot and they will leave a mess likely return. Living in a home with rodents can lead to health issues and contamination.
Rodent bait stations
Rodent boxes are sealed boxes placed near your home to deter rodents from entering your home. These boxes are one of the best ways to protect your property. Some people scatter bait to kill the rodents but can also kill other animals in your yard. It is very dangerous if you have children who can also ingest the rat poison so leave it to the professionals.
Trapping can take a couple weeks depending on the amount of rodents in your home. Your traps should be checked every week to prevent dead rodents from decaying in you attic.
